Biography

Virginia Mastellari has been a researcher in Greek Language and Literature at the University of Pavia since 2023. Previously, she was Assistentin in Greek studies at the University of Freiburg i.Br. (Germany), where she earned her PhD in 2018 with a dissertation on five comic poets of the 4th century BCE, which was awarded the “Günter-Wöhrle-Preis” in 2019. Since 2017, she has been a member of the international research group “KomFrag” (Kommentierung der Fragmente der griechischen Komödie), for which she has produced a commentary on fragmentary comic poets of the 4th century BCE (Calliade – Mnesimaco. Introduzione, traduzione e commento, FrC 16.5, Göttingen 2020). Since 2019, she has also been involved in the “LGgK” project (Lexicon der Gegenstände aus der griechischen Komödie), a database on objects in Greek comedy. Currently, she is working on a commentary on the fragments of the comic playwright Philemon. Her research interests range from Greek to Latin theater, particularly the use of Greek comic models on the Roman stage, to the transmission of ancient texts and the development of databases for Digital Humanities.
