Ambr. L 116 sup., f. 112v

F. 112v contains Iliad 8.553–565, accompanied by the Pseudo-Psellian paraphrase; below, occupying the full width of the page and written in a smaller module, appear the opening lines of the scholia à recueil. This folio is representative of the various mise en page strategies and modes of interaction between text and exegetical paratext characteristic of the entire manuscript. Alphabetical and Greek numeral markers can be observed in the margins of both the Homeric text and the scholia, serving to align specific verses with their corresponding commentary. Noteworthy as well are the varying ink tones used for the text and the paraphrase, as well as the polychromy of the enlarged initials (in ekthesis) introducing each scholion. The folio also provides a meaningful specimen of the graphic features typical of the anonymous scribe: pronounced contrast in script size, an abundance of elaborate ligatures, numerous abbreviations, and other distinctive traits associated with the so-called ‘Baroque’ Otranto script style of the 13th–14th centuries.

Dimensions. Total writing area approximately 220 × 155 mm; first column: 60 mm; intercolumn space: 15 mm; second column: 80 mm; line spacing between text and paraphrase: approx. 5 mm; line spacing for scholia: approx. 3 mm.
