Biography
Domenico Pellegrino (b. 1990) is currently a Research Fellow at the University of Messina. He obtained a PhD in Classical Philology at the University of Messina in February 2018, along with the label of Doctor Europaeus, defending a thesis on the Greek-Latin translation, made by Burgundio of Pisa in the 12th century, of the Galenic treatise On the elements according to Hippocrates. The doctoral dissertation offers a study of the manuscript tradition, an analysis of stylistic and linguistic features of the translation and the first critical edition of Burgundio’s Latin version. The critical edition, along with Greek-Latin and Latin-Greek indexes, is about to be published within the series Medica Graecolatina (Andavira Editora).
His research focuses primarily on Greek and Latin Medical and Scientific Literature (Galen; Methodism; Caelius Aurelianus), and on Greek-Latin translations of Galenic works made during the Middle Ages (Burgundio da Pisa; Niccolò da Reggio). Moreover, he is a member of the Editorial Board of Classica Vox: Rivista di studi umanistici (ISSN 2724-0169) since 2021.
